The difference between low pressure medium carbon steel flange and flat welding

Flanges made of carbon steel are called carbon steel flanges. A flange is a connecting device for two large-diameter pipes, usually two flanges and several fastening bolts. Carbon steel flanges are flanges made of carbon steel.

Flat welding flange is a kind of flange that is directly welded to equipment or pipelines through fillet welds. Simple structure and convenient processing. Its force characteristics are between the integral flange and the looper flange. Flat welding flanges used on vessels are divided into Type A flat welding flanges and Type B flat welding flanges.

1. Type A flat welding flange is directly welded to the vessel. The size of the unwelded seam is small or the groove is not welded. It cannot guarantee that the flange and the vessel are stressed at the same time. The strength calculation refers to the loop flange.

2. The B-type flat welding flange is generally attached with a thick short cylinder. The welding quality of the flange and the short cylinder is reliable, which can ensure that the flange and the container are stressed at the same time. The strength calculation can be considered according to the overall flange.

Type B flat welding flanges are widely used in the connection of medium and low pressure vessels and pipelines. For large occasions; type A is a V-shaped groove, and type B is a U-shaped groove, so type B is easier to penetrate, so its strength and stiffness are higher.

Low carbon steel has good plasticity and low strength. After adding an appropriate amount of carbon, it will become hard, and the plasticity will decrease and the strength will increase. Flange connections may need to withstand high tensile, compressive, torsional, and shear strengths, and carbon steel flanges are a better choice.
